Dubai: Nine people sustained injuries in separate road accidents on Thursday, police said.
Five people escaped with injuries in a major collision between three cars on Shaikh Zayed Road.
Police said the victims escaped with minor injuries, but the financial damages were huge. Police said the accident took place as a result of speeding and sudden swerving by the first car, which led to two other cars crashing into it.
The accident took place between the first and second bridge on Shaikh Zayed Road heading toward Abu Dhabi and caused long traffic tailbacks.
In another accident, two bus supervisors sustained moderate injuries when a school bus carrying 20 pupils crashed into a car on its right lane in Muhaisna four area behind Lulu Village at around 7:30am.
Police said the bus driver was speeding, driving recklessly and not paying attention to the road.
A motorist sustained moderate injuries when his car turned over near the University City on Al Warqa Roundabout. Police said the motorist was also speeding and driving recklessly. As a result, he lost control on the wheel which led to its swerve and turn over.
A jaywalker sustained moderate injuries when a car ran him over on Al Maktoum Road as he was trying to cross from an undesignated area.
Police called on motorists to abide to traffic rules and speed limits, use indicators while changing lanes, leave a safe travelling distance between vehicles, as the common reasons behind many accidents are speeding and not leaving enough distance between vehicles which does not allow the motorist to brake safely and avoid accidents in the case of a sudden stop by the car in the front.
