9,000 men work on Metro
An estimated 9,000 men are helping to construct the Dubai Metro Project at various locations throughout the city.
- 4.45am - Metro trains will run an automated selftest
- 5.00am - Trains ready to be launched from the Rashidiya and Jebel Ali Free Zone depots
- Peak hours include - 6:30am to 8:30am,
12:30pm to 14:00pm and 17:30pm to 21:00pm - Frequency of metro service at each station - 3 minutes and 45 seconds during peak hours
and 7 minutes during off peak time. - 38 trains will run on both directions of the Red Line during peak hour.
- Total travel time from one end to the other will be 71 minutes.
- Line capacity will be 1,100 passengers per direction
per hour. - 1:00am- metro will come to a halt and move back to their respective depots.
- 44 trains in operations per direction.
- 658 - passenger capacity.
Dubai: An estimated 9,000 men are helping to construct the Dubai Metro Project at various locations throughout the city.
The Metro's Red Line will carry 11,000 passengers per hour by 2009, according to figures released by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The line will initially run from Salahuddin Road to the American University of Dubai through BurJuman and Shaikh Zayed Road.
It will be gradually extended to Jebel Ali port in the south and the intersection of Al Nahda and Damascus roads through Al Qiyadah intersection in the north.
The Red Line will run underground from the intersection of Shaikh Rashid and Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed roads to just before the intersection of Salahuddin and Abu Bakr Al Siddique roads.
Ongoing construction is being carried out on the diaphragm walls for the underground stations.
In an earlier interview to Gulf News Abdul Majeed Khaja, Director of the Dubai Metro Department at the RTA, said the Metro system would be the most "reliable, safe and fastest mode of transport."
The tunnelling work and construction of viaducts will commence in November.
Kahja said the metro's design team comprised experts who worked on the interior of the Burj Al Arab and Dubai airport.
According to him fares will be decided after studying fares of other mode of transport like taxis, abra and buses.
The cost of the project (excluding extension) is Dh15.5 billion.
Phase one of the Red Line will be operational in September 2009. Phase two of the Green Line will be complete by March 2010.
It will be a driverless automatic system and will be controlled from the Operation Control Centre.
The maximum speed of trains is 110 km/h.
A total of 87 trains comprising five carriages each will be run along the Red and Green Lines.
