Dubai: Pakistan Association in Dubai (PAD) is going ahead with its plan to hold elections for the new governing body despite a row between two rival groups over the election schedule.

Pakistan Consulate General in Dubai called a couple of meetings to settle the dispute between the rival groups, including the one led by the outgoing president Riaz Farooq Sahi and the other expected contestant Chaudhry Noorul Hassan Tanveer, who is also president of the United Forum in Dubai.

But they failed to settle the issue regarding the date and procedure for the elections of the governing body of the PAD, which is the largest Pakistani community organisation in the UAE.

Sahi, who is also Chairman of the ad hoc committee, said the polling for 12 posts of the governing body of the association will be held on June 10. However, an official at the Consulate said that the elections may be postponed as some issues between the rival groups still have to be settled.

According to the election schedule provided by the PAD ad hoc committee, the deadline for submitting nomination papers was May 25 while polling will be held on June 10 and the swearing-in ceremony will be held on June 17.

A seven-member Election Committee headed by Abdul Gaffar Fancy will conduct the election.
