Emiratis 'reject jobs in broadcast media'
A top media personality has criticised some Emiratis' mentality which prevents them from accepting job offers in broadcast media.

Dubai: A top media personality has criticised some Emiratis' mentality which prevents them from accepting job offers in broadcast media.
A number of Emiratis have turned down offers to work as cameramen or TV technicians at Dubai Media Incorporated because they say they are shy to occupy such positions, said Ahmad Al Shaikh from the company, who was addressing a gathering which highlighted how the Gulf media is responding to the challenges of technology.
Al Shaikh said he expects that with time, the mentality will change and then they will accept such jobs.
"We usually advertise different jobs in the media, but some applicants reject work as cameramen or technicians in the TV field. Many Emiratis also prefer higher pay," he told Gulf News.
Speakers at the workshop including Ebrahim Al Bashmi, editor-in-chief of the Al Waqt newspaper in Bahrain and Jamal Khadhoggi, Editor-in-chief of the Al Watan newspaper in Saudi Arabia, discussed the privatisation of the Gulf media, to avoid the general misconception they are government tools or monitored by censorship.
The speakers also agreed on the lack of professional and administrative qualifications in Gulf media organisations.
