Dubai Media City will be model for Arab-funded hub in Florida

Dubai: Florida, America's sunshine state, could soon be home to a development inspired by Dubai Media City, a US television news channel has reported.
According to ABC Action News, the multi-media complex would be "funded by Arab nations" and would house everything from magazines to television studios.
Unaware
Governor of Florida Charlie Crist has praised the project, which he said would provide high quality jobs for the community.
The ABC report last week showed Crist meeting developers involved in the multi-million dollar prestige scheme. The station said the development in the Tampa Bay area would include headquarters for magazines, film studios, television companies, websites and news organisations.
The project is said to be "modelled after" Dubai Media City (DMC), which has attracted a string of the world's top news and other media organisations.
However, Ameenah Al Rostamani, DMC's Executive Director of Media, Tecom Investments, told Gulf News yesterday that she was "unaware" of the project.
"This is the first that I have heard of such a project, but of course, we would be happy for it to go ahead," she said. "So far, DMC is the only one of its kind."
In an interview with ABC, Crist said: "We want to continue to have hope and opportunity for the people of Florida, particularly as it relates to this clean industry, it doesn't pollute, it provides high-paying jobs. What could be better?"
According to ABC, developers are reportedly keen to begin building work on the project within the next 12 months.
Tampa Bay is a large natural harbour and estuary on the Gulf of Mexico that includes the cities of Tampa, St Petersburg and Clearwater.
The exact location of the proposed media hub in the area has not been revealed by developers.
