DUBAI: Amidst inescapable branding screaming: "Where you need to be Scene" and fire burners in large metal pots to keep the air warm, 200 VIP guests walked the red carpet for the launch party of Al Nisr Media's Scene magazine.
From branded Scene cookies and pashminas to an array of sweet surprises from Candelite, guests were treated to a no-holds barred party to celebrate the launch of Dubai's newest celebrity, shopping and entertainment magazine.
"We are delighted with the performance of the magazine to date. It has exceeded our expectations across all the key metrics and we look forward to commencing phase two of our plan which will include launching the brand across multiple platforms including tablets and smart phones," said Scene Publishing Director Adrian Pickstock.
As the music picked up pace and guests let down their hair, Pickstock kickstarted the festivities with a speech thanking Scene Editor Gemma White and her team, to be followed by a toast that had every glass up in the air, cheering him on.
In a light-hearted vein Pickstock said to the 200 guests who braved the January cold for the pool-side cocktail reception at The Address Dubai Marina, "About 12 months ago, Gemma and I had a talk about her career and she defined for me her perfect job. This job consisted of editing a magazine that covered her areas of passion. Namely, shopping, entertainment, shopping, fashion, shopping, celebrity and some more shopping. What she wanted was a quality magazine that covered all the areas she's so passionate about. So then, I got excited too, especially since we found out that at the time, there was a gap in the market for a magazine such as Scene."
Intense research later, Scene was given the green light and released its first issue on October 13.

As guests enjoyed the performance by a saxophonist and the breathtaking fire-eaters, Gemma told XPRESS: "I'm so glad to have been able to celebrate the success of Scene magazine with some of our biggest supporters and fans at our official launch party. It's been a fantastic night, and the setting at Shades, The Address Marina, and the fire-eaters have been amazing! Even in a short space of time, Scene has garnered an impressive and dedicated following across the UAE, and every week I'm excited to bring the best in celebrity, entertainment and style to our readers."
The event was attended by Scene staff, supporters, partners, clients and 20 Scene Connect readers and subscribers who won VIP tickets to the party.
