Dubai: The Road to Guantanamo is a devastating portrayal of the existence of those held at the US detention centre in Guantanamo Bay.

Caught in a limbo with no access to lawyers, the film shows prisoners being shouted at, exposed to loud rock music, held in stress positions, kept in solitary confinement, banned from talking and beaten.

Of course the scenes are only as true as the accounts given by the three British Muslims held there until 2004.

In fact, when in real interviews they try to explain why they ended up among the Taliban, their accounts do not entirely ring true.

Yet there is more to this film. There are wonderful scenes of street life in Pakistan that will be fascinating for anyone who has not yet visited the country.

The shots from inside Afghanistan are equally vivid but for darker reasons, especially one following a bombing.

This is not a film for the faint-hearted but it should be seen by anyone who wants to find out what the "war on terror" really involves - at least according to three former detainees.
