Dubai: A workshop on Kerala's ancient martial art practice called ‘Kalarippayat', is being held in Dubai this weekend.

Gerhard Schmid, a world-class instructor based in Hamburg, is offering a Kalari foundations workshop on March 6 and 7 (Friday and Saturday) at the Zen Yoga studio in Dubai Media City

According to Schmid, “Kalarippayat is an intact oral lineage as old as Yoga and Ayurveda, and utilises many of the same principles and wisdoms ... A warrior tradition, Kalari is a powerful meditation in movement, developing strength, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness.''

“Kalari has a systematic approach to training the complete Self: the body, the emotions and the mind,'' he says.

Schmid is one of the leading practitioners of Kalari in the West, having completed almost ten years of the traditional 12-year- education under his teacher C. M. Sherif Gurukal in Kannur, Kerala.

Schmid teaches at his own studio in Hamburg, Germany, as well as in various places around the world.
