Popular Indian RJs to host shows on Radio Spice FM 105.4 from December 5

 DUBAI : After a long hiatus, popular Indian radio jockeys Kritika Rawat and Gaurav Tandon are all set to return to the airwaves.

The husband and wife duo will host separate weekday talk shows on Radio Spice FM 105.4 beginning this Sunday.

"I am both nervous and excited. As the cliché goes, I have got butterflies in my stomach," said Kritika, 28, whose unceremonious exit from City 101.6 FM in July 2009 had sparked outrage among listeners.

Angry fans had set up a Facebook group called ‘Kritika Don't Go' and, as part of a bizarre form of protest, sent tomatoes to her previous radio station.

Kritika said she has put her past behind her and is starting afresh, though the concept of Birthday Poppat - the highlight of her upcoming show The Maha Breakfast Show with Kritika - appears to be heavily borrowed from Birthday Pappu, which she hosted at City 101.6FM programme English Breakfast Desi Mem.

Her show will be aired from 7am to 11am on weekdays. Advertising, television and media professionals, besides the consul general of India Sanjay Varma, will go on air to welcome Kritika on the inaugural show.

Gaurav Tandon said his show Excuse Me, I am Gaurav will be aired during evenings and will resurrect affable characters like AJ and Ramesh The Friendly Kabootar.

Kritika said her return to radio was prompted by a conversation she had with a Pakistani taxi driver en route to Bur Dubai from Al Barsha.

"I asked him casually if he listened to the radio and he said not so much since Kritika went off air. Of course, he didn't know who I was. I was so touched I instantly decided I have to make a comeback."

Radio listeners have welcomed the return of the RJs. "I can't wait to tune to my radio," said Aditi, 34, a self-confessed fan of Kritika and Gaurav.

    Thank you for bringing to our notice that Kritika Rawat is returning to the air waves. She is the unofficial ambassador of the Indians living in Dubai. She has done more for the Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis than the respective consulates! It’s a matter of great pride that she is returning to the radio. She is a role model for thousands of people. In fact, she should be awarded for the wonderful work that she has done. No one has been able to use the radio as a tool to reach out to the needy -- except for Kritika -- and I would like to convey this to her that she is a hero in the true sense of the word. And I am so happy to welcome her back to her throne, which was empty since she left.

So congratulations to both of you. The fact that you guys are coming back on Spice FM has made me ecstatic! I have already become a loyal listener of 105.5 Spice....     Kritika… hahahahhahahaha… that’s exactly what I miss the most about you...your contagious laughter has always had an impact on those going through a bad phase in life. I’ve often heard that you may not come back on air, but I’ve always had this gut feeling that you are not the kind to shun yourself because of some small hiccup in life. There are many people who follow you and look up to you. So go girl!

    I am so happy to hear that Kritika and Gaurav are returning back to the radio. I am an ardent fan and have been missing them very badly since they left. Truly, the standard of radio hit an all time low since their absence. But now that they are coming back we can expect some world class entertainment. Kritika is not just famous in the UAE, but a lot of people in India, New Zealand, Austrailia, UK, Singapore etc also used to listen to her. She truly is an international celebrity and I can’t wait to hear her on radio. She is definitely the queen of radio and we are with her.
