Dubai: Fans queuing up for tickets for the stand up comedy show by Russell Peters were furious, after being told that they were sold out.

Gulf News received calls from students yesterday who claimed they were unfairly treated and faced rude remarks from staff at Virgin Megastore in the Mall of the Emirates.

Staff at Virgin Megastore said they were not authorised to speak to the press. No one from the head office was available for comment when contacted by Gulf News because offices had closed.

Nitin Shahani said he went along with his friends as early as 3.10 pm to get tickets, which was open to the public at 4 pm. The store had only 100 tickets and every person was allowed to get only two tickets, he said.

"At 4 pm, people were rushing from everywhere and nobody was keeping to the queue. It was chaos. After 20 minutes, the store announced that tickets were sold out. How can that happen when we were the first 20 people to be there?" he wondered.

Feras Barakat who was unlucky in getting a ticket too said that he was among the first people to come in but was shocked by the way the organisers dealt with the situation.

"Workers at the store made rude remarks. A security guard even watched us and laughed. He used his personal mobile phone to take pictures of us," he said.

He said that he was among the 40 people in the queue. "If everyone in front of me got two tickets then there still would be tickets for us!"

Another person said: "This whole thing is a set up. They didn't explain to us. They hastily apologised to us and admitted their mistake. But we need a solution."
