- Elissa, a popular Lebanese singer, entertains the crowd during Eid Festival. The winner of multiple awards is one of the most well-known female singers in the Arab world.
Abu Dhabi: There was a big crowd to watch one of the most popular singers in the Arab world performing at the Eid Festival in Abu Dhabi on Friday and the atmosphere was geared towards family entertainment.
"Even Elissa looked relaxed because she was performing in front of families," said Latifa I., an Emirati graphic designer, of the popular Lebanese singer.
"I am a big fan of Elissa, who I had watched only on TV previously. This is my first opportunity to watch her live," she said.
Abu Dhabi Municipality is organising the Eid Festival at the Formal Park on the Corniche. It began on Thursday and will continue until January 2. A wide range of leisure activities for all age groups, including children, begins daily at 5pm.
As expected, Elissa's one-hour performance was a big hit with the audience. The next major attraction will be a performance by the popular UAE singer Hussain Al Jasmi on the evening of National Day (Wednesday), the organisers told Gulf News. "There will be surprises every day for visitors," they added.
"Singers will entertain the visitors around the park every day. Musical performances and skaters will add to the liveliness," said Muhra Al Muhairi, Advisor for Community Service at Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
Latifa, who visited the park with her four nieces, said the children want to go back because they enjoyed the colourful activities. "They were not just games, but creative activities. My nieces drew pictures and did paintings," she said.
"After an entry fee [Dh15], everything else was free," Latifa said.
