Sharjah: A committee has been set up to look into the growing disputes between landlords and tenants over increasing rents in Sharjah, a senior municipal official said on Thursday.

“The committee has been set up to enhance the relationship between landlords and tenants and will look into the legal protection for tenants," said Abdullah Al Ameri, Director General of Sharjah Municipality.

It has already discussed the rental situation during the past five years and will carry out further investigations as to whether any amendments should be added.

The Sharjah Municipality refused to disclose what the proposed amendments are. It will issue a draft of the new procedures at the beginning of next year.

It will also look into a mechanism for the Rent Dispute Committee to help solve the issues between landlords and tenants, said Al Ameri.
