Dubai: Colourful fairy lights were strung up on the main streets of the emirates as the first day of Eid holidays drew to a close on Tuesday.

People were seen exchanging greetings and many expatriates took advantage of the holidays to relax at parks and the beaches.

But for some Eid was just like another day as they were working on some of the essential services.

Millions of Muslims around the globe celebrated Eid, the festivities which come after a month of fasting in Ramadan. There are some Arab countries who will celebrate Eid on Wednesday.

A new initiative by the Dubai Shopping Festival called 'Eid in Dubai" has meanwhile, started for the duration of the long public sector holidays.
