Eid Al Fitr declared for the UAE

Today is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, the UAE Moon Sighting Committee, headed by Mohammad Bin Nakhira Al Daheri, Minister of Justice, announced yesterday.

Dubai: Today is the first day of Eid Al Fitr, the UAE Moon Sighting Committee announced on Thursday.

The committee, headed by Mohammad Bin Nakhira Al Daheri, Minister of Justice, was quoted by WAM as saying that after a number of legitimate measures, as well as several contacts made with neighbouring countries, it was established that today is the first day of Shawwal and hence the first day of Eid Al Fitr in the UAE.

Al Daheri and the committee members extended greetings to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; Their Highnesses Members of The Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates, and other leaders.

Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Libya will mark the first day of Eid Al Fitr today and Oman will observe Eid tomorrow.
