Abu Dhabi: In an initiative to promote documentary film making by the youth, Sama Dubai and Anasy productions have launched a film competition with a grand prize of Dh500,000.

"This competition is considered the first of its kind in the world," says assistant manager of Anasy, Christina Mouallem.

"With its two categories: 'Shaikh Zayed' film and a free choice, entries are invited from all nationalities and from people of all ages in the Gulf and other Arab countries," she added.

The rules of the competition are flexible. The documentary category is called "Document Your Talent", and although open to all, the award organisers are encouraging the youth to present their ideas.

The films should be at least 30 minutes and in English, or subtitled in English. The deadline for submissions is May 12, 2008.
