Abu Dhabi: Fifteen of the UAE's best camels were auctioned off at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex) last week with the proceeds going to the Veterinary Research Centre in Sweihan.
The top bid received was for Nasi and Majd, who were auctioned for Dh200,000 each. The second highest bid was for Gazi, a female camel, which was sold for Dh180,000. All the auctioned camels — seven males and eight females — were under the age of two.
Khalifa Al Nuaimi, Director of Camel and Horse Auctions, said that the camel breeding section of the research centre is concerned with pedigree racing camels and milk-producing camels, and had also overseen many successful projects including breeding over 2,200 pedigree camels via embryo implantation.
"Adihex is the perfect platform to showcase these high-breed camels, while generating resources for camel research and breeding," Al Nuaimi said.
