Dubai: Celebrations for the 36th National Day on December 2 are set to be a unique experience, as the history of the UAE will come alive in an Arabic opera incorporating poetry and storytelling, being performed over three days.
The Dubai Development Information company (DDI) yesterday announced that to celebrate National Day an 80-minute opera titled A Glorious Wedding will be organised to pay homage to the spirit of the UAE.
"It is perhaps the only opera that speaks about the people of the UAE and their leaders and how they made an example of their union and how they made 192 cultures believe in one common vision," said Marwan Al Ajmi, Chief Operating Officer of DDI, the company behind the event.
The DDI has announced that a team of 100 artists from the UAE and Lebanon will come together to celebrate National Day and to focus on the culture and heritage of this land known for its mysticism.
The three-day event, called Live Dubai, taking place from November 30 to December 2 is timed to conclude on UAE National Day.
Al Ajmi said three days of the event will be open to VIPs, while the last day will be open for the public for free. He said the event will be held in Zaabel Park, section C.
The event shall open with a grand exhibition. The exhibition shall be followed by a display of traditional entertainment in the form of the Arabic opera, with an international appeal. The opera tells the story of one land, its leaders and their union that enabled this tremendous growth. The opera is a masterpiece that incorporates poetry and storytelling in the form of a musical that relives the vision and genius of a nation's leadership and its stride that brought together numerous cultures and shaped the future of a country that stands proud today.
Annual event
Al Ajmi said Live Dubai will be an annual event henceforth and will include 60 artists from the UAE and 40 artists from Lebanon. He said they are yet to decide on the artists from the UAE who will play the roles in the opera.
