85 contestants to take part in Dubai International Holy Quran Award
Four countries will have contestants participating for the first time in the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, which will be held at the Cultural and Scientific Association this year.

Dubai: Four countries will have contestants participating for the first time in the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, which will be held at the Cultural and Scientific Association this year.
The new location in Al Mamzar, which has a cultural and Islamic architectural design and characteristics, will host numerous Islamic scholars and lecturers along with the contestants for the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA).
Held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, this year's 12th Quran award was launched yesterday at a press conference.
Ebrahim Mohammad Bu Melha, Chairman of DIHQA's Organising Committee, said 85 participants from different countries are registered for the competition, with a noted increase in the number of European countries interested in joining the Quran Award.
Coverage
In co-operation with Dubai Media, the committee will launch a TV channel dedicated to covering the Islamic lectures held from first of Ramadan, which is expected to be this Monday, until the 6th day of Ramadan.
The competition will also be covered by 15 different international TV channels and live coverage of the award could be viewed on a video mobile by subscribing through Etisalat, said Bu Melha.
The women's association in Al Hamriya and a public tent in Jumeirah will host a number of lectures from the first of Ramadan till September 11.
The lecturers will include prominent figures in the Arab and Islamic world such as the world-famous Egyptian preacher Amr Khalid, who will be giving a lecture on September 6 at the Cultural and Scientific Association and at the Jumeirah tent on September 5. Dr Amar Abdul Kafi, Dr Mohammad Al Nabulsi, and Dr Zagloul Al Najar are among the Islamic scholars who will be presenting lectures this Ramadan.
The Quran award started in 1997 (1418 Hijri) with only two elements: the competition and the Islamic of the Year personality award. Today it has six additional sections: local Quran contestant, programme on memorising the Quran for prisoners, Islamic lectures, UAE national programme, beautiful recitation contest and Quran sciences programme.
The international contest is set to begin on September 8 till September 20. Six Islamic scholars in Sharia studies and Quranic sciences and readings from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Nigeria, Syria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be judging the contestants this year.
Contestant evaluation
A total of 85 contestants from different countries will take part in the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) from September 8-20.
Four countries and territories will be participating for the first time in DIHQA: Switzerland, Uzbekistan, Botswana and Zanzibar.
The youngest contestant is Fateh Fat'hi Tobal from Algeria. He is only 9-years-old. Contestants should have a complete memorisation of the Quran with full knowledge of Quran recitation.
The Islamic personality of the year, who will be announced in a few days, gets an award of Dh1 million for his contributions and achievements in the Islamic world. The first three winners of the Quran recitation receive Dh250,000, Dh200,000 and Dh150,000. The fourth to tenth positions receive Dh65,000, Dh60,000, Dh55,000, Dh50,000, Dh45,000, Dh40,000 and Dh35,000.
Meanwhile, winners below the tenth position will be rewarded according to their evaluations as those above 80 per cent are rewarded Dh30,000 each, from 70-79 per cent receive Dh25,000 each and below 70 per cent get Dh20,000 each.
The new location is at the Cultural and Scientific Association in Mamzar close to Al Mamzar public park.
