Three grocery stores in RAK fined for water violations
The Municipality on Monday fined and instructed owners of three grocery stores to sign pledges not to display drinking water outside their shops.
Ras Al Khaimah: The Municipality on Monday fined and instructed owners of three grocery stores to sign pledges not to display drinking water outside their shops.
Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Director-General of RAK Municipality said instructions had been given to stores and supermarkets banning the display of drinking water outside their premises to preserve the quality of the water in the heat and keep it away from dust.
Al Shamsi said stores which had been aware of hygiene standards had intentionally been violating them. He added that warnings were also issued to these stores and placed in their files.
He warned that penalties would be stricter should the stores repeat the violation.
Meanwhile, municipal inspectors heavily fined a restaurant for selling its customers sandwiches that contained hair. Al Shamsi said the violation was reported to the municipality by an Emirati family who ordered some sandwiches from the restaurants and found hair in them.
Complaint
The Emirati family lodged a complaint with the municipality which sent its inspectors to check the restaurant. The inspectors confirmed the complaints and caught labourers at the restaurants preparing sandwiches in an unhygienic fashion. Al Shamsi said all the sandwiches and the materials used to prepare them were seized and later destroyed.
The restaurant owner was summoned to the municipality. During investigations, he confessed to violating hygiene standards. He signed a pledge that he would adhere to hygiene standards and that his restaurant would be shut down should any further complaints be reported.
Municipal inspectors also seized huge quantities of liver from a butcher's shop. The inspectors tested the meat and found it was unfit for human consumption.
A heavy penalty was imposed on the shop, with a warning to close down the shop in the case of any future violation.
