Slim Fast cans in Abu Dhabi market safe
Laboratory tests find them to be safe, says official
Abu Dhabi: Lab tests conducted by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority have proved that Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink products, available in cans in the capital's market, are fit for human consumption, a senior official said Wednesday.
"Our inspectors found that products available in Abu Dhabi market did not belong to the batches recalled by the company," Mohammad Jalal Al Reyaysa, manager of Communication and Information Department at the authority, said.
"They [the available products] were made in the UK whereas the recalled products were US-made," he said. "Still, we conducted lab tests on samples, which proved the products are safe."
Recall
As Gulf News reported on Tuesday, the authority had asked retailers to remove Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink products in cans from their shelves, following the recall of some batches by Unilever, the manufacturer, due to possible health risk.
The retailers were asked to hold the products until the authority conducted lab tests. A press release issued by US Food and Drug Administration had said the recall involved all Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink products in cans.
No other Slim-Fast products, such as Slim-Fast powdered shakes, meal bars or snack bars, were affected by this recall.
The recall was initiated after the company conducted quality testing on Slim-Fast Ready-to-Drink products in cans.
