Dubai: Don't be surprised if restaurants ask you to sign a disclaimer when next time you take food home.

You are accountable for the quality of take-aways, they say. Hotel Kempinski in Mall of the Emirates is getting their customers to sign a disclaimer note that states their restaurants are not responsible for the quality of food once it has left their premises.

The move follows three recent deaths due to suspected food poisoning.

Tony Hartono, supervisor at Sezzam, one of the outlets in Kempinski said, "We follow strict hygiene standards while preparing the food. But ... once [customers] take it outside the restaurant, we do not know how they treat the food and when they are going to consume it."

Calicut Paragon, a restaurant in Karama, has put a sticker on its parcel bags asking customers to consume the food within two hours of purchasing.

But some people maintain that disclaimers are in bad taste.

"I think it is completely unethical to make customers sign disclaimers," one manager said.
