Dubai: Getting expert medical opinion has been made considerably easier in Dubai with the launch of a website that provides details about medical practitioners operating in different areas of the emirate.

Laila Moufid, co-founder of www.doctor-dubai.com, says the website is already attracting thousands of views every day.

The website is licensed by the Ministry of Health and lists more than 1,300 doctors in Dubai. It is also a ready reckoner on thousands of healthcare-related companies, from pharmacies to insurance firms.

The service is free and allows for searches based on language preferences.

Gulf News clicked on Doctor Search on the website looking for a poison specialist who speaks English and whose facility is in Deira. Within a few seconds, we found Dr Adnan and there was a page displaying the exact location of his facility.

"The next-generation website is easy to use and is enabling people from different walks of life to find doctors who are exactly right for them, making Dubai truly, 'the city that cares for your wellness'," said Moufid in a statement.

People can also search the directory to find alternative medical practitioners and therapists who match various criteria such as the nationality of the doctor and even his medical degree. An emergency section is also provided. "It provides users with information and gives them options they never had before," said the co-founder of the website.

Residents can not only find doctors but can also find the location of health clubs, gyms, sports clubs, spas and beauty and skin care clinics.

There is also a list of banned drugs for those visiting Dubai and keen not to get into trouble with the authorities. The list includes banned drugs such as 123 Cold, which has Codeine, and anti-depressants such as Valium and Zoloft, which can only be prescribed by a psychiatrist in Dubai.
