Abu Dhabi/Kuwait City: The UAE Health Ministry confirmed the first case of swine flu in the country after a man tested positive for the virus.

Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Health, said the man, who came from Canada, is now being treated at a hospital in the country.

The minister confirmed that passengers who came with the H1NI-infected man on the same flight are all fine and have not showed any symptoms of the virus.

He said all precautionary and preventive measures are in place in line with World Health Organisation's guidelines, thermal scanners have been installed in all the country's exit points. There is also an exchange of information with the WHO and regional and Arab health organisations.

In Kuwait, 18 US soldiers who tested positive for swine flu have been removed from their base, while a raft of new cases emerged on Sunday in Asia, where Australia shut down a school.

Kuwaiti officials said there was no sign swine flu had spread from the soldiers to the local population. "All of the 18 soldiers have left Kuwait," said Yousuf Mendkar, deputy chief of Kuwait's public health department.
