Government employees to pay for treatment
Dubai: Government employees in Dubai who enjoyed full medical coverage under a comprehensive insurance scheme will now have to pay deductibles or a percentage of the cost of treatment, XPRESS has learnt.
Sources said this follows a series of changes that have been introduced in the Enaya scheme of medical coverage for Dubai government employees with effect from February 21. According to the changes, insured members who received 100 per cent coverage for all categories of treatments in the past will now have to bear between 20 and 50 per cent of the expense out of their own pocket.
In the case of optical treatment, members have to now pay 50 per cent of the cost of frames and contact lenses although the lens of the frame will remain fully covered.
Similarly, they have to bear 30 per cent of the expense on dental treatments and 20 per cent in the case of all other medical treatments, the sources said. While the helpline at Neuron, the third-party administrator appointed by Dubai Government to facilitate the implementation of the scheme, confirmed the changes, private hospitals and clinics said they had not received any intimation in this regard so far.
"We cannot comment on this as yet," said a spokesperson of the EHL Management Group that runs Welcare and City Hospitals.
A source at the private Unicare medical clinic at Bur Dubai also said the clinic was not aware of any such changes.
