Ras Al Khaimah: A reputed drinking water company was fined Dh3,000 for supplying a bottle containing metal pieces.
The municipality also ordered the company officials to sign an undertaking not to repeat the mistake in future.
The contaminated water bottle was supplied to a federal department. The department has, however, demanded an official apology from the company to give up its rights for further compensation.
The company provided the federal department with 5-gallon water containers. A department employee noticed the steel pieces in the water and reported it to his superiors who checked the water and immediately reported the case to the municipality.
Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Director-General of the Municipality, said the company's offence posed a serious threat to public health.
Company officials claimed such mistakes rarely happen in their business.
The company said it would consider the federal department's demand for an official apology and answer back in a couple of days.
The company has been the main water supplier for the department for the past few years.
