UAE will work for unified programme
Abu Dhabi: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan received yesterday at Al Bateen palace Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
He is currently visiting the country as part of a tour of the GCC countries.
The president was updated by Al Attiyah on the latest preparations for holding the 27th GCC summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next month as well as efforts being made to push the GCC joint action forward.
Shaikh Khalifa voiced the UAE's firm determination to bolster the GCC's progress march in all fields in order to unify stances and enhance continuous coordination and consultations among GCC member states at various regional and international forums to make it an integrated institution serving and protecting interests of its member states and their peoples.
Common vision
Shaikh Khalifa expressed hope the 27th summit to be convened under the chairmanship of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia, would come out with resolutions and recommendations that meet aspirations and dreams of the GCC citizens and contribute to realising more achievements within the framework of the common vision and fate of the group.
Al Attiyah noted the Riyadh summit would constitute an important turning point and milestone in the path of the GCC toward the future.
"The two-day Riyadh gathering will add a fresh momentum to the GCC progress in political, economic and social domains for the interest and benefit of the GCC people," Al Attiyah affirmed.
Shaikh Khalifa also received a written message from King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, inviting him to attend the GCC Summit.
The invitation was delivered to the president by Dr Abdul Aziz Al Khuwaiter, Saudi minister of State and cabinet member during a meeting at Al Bateen palace.
