UAE's humanitarian efforts get noticed

Abu Dhabi: The United Nations will issue a call for concerted global action in support of humanitarian causes from Abu Dhabi on Monday. The UN is seeking to mobilise support and aid to help millions of people threatened by armed conflicts and natural calamities worldwide.

Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, will launch the UN global call in the presence of a number of heads of UN organisations and representative of specialised humanitarian agencies of the world body.

This is only the first time the UN is launching its annual global call from the Middle East. The move is in recognition of the role played by the UAE in easing the burden of victims of conflicts and natural crisis across the globe.

The UN global pledge, which dates back to a ceremony held at the UN headquarters in New York in 1992, aims to generate funds to meet the needs of people hit by wars and natural disasters.

Through the campaign, the UN aims to collect money to fund its relief and rescue programmes and charity projects that target people affected by armed conflicts and natural calamities.
