Dubai: The UAE Human Rights Association (HRA) has been given a land plot for building its headquarters to be able to play its national and humanitarian role.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued instructions to the concerned authorities to grant the plot to the HRA.

Abdul Gaffar Hussain, HRA Chairman, appreciated the kind gesture of Shaikh Mohammad. "The gesture reflects Shaikh Mohammad's respect and support for freedom and upholding the dignity of mankind," he said.

"It also underlines Shaikh Mohammad's commitment as a human being and leader to the protection of public freedom and the rights of every member of the community," he added.

Hussain said the financial and moral support given by Shaikh Mohammad to the HRA provides a strong motive for human rights activists in the UAE to develop the association's role in the local community and achieve its national and humanitarian objectives of defending rights and dignity of individuals and standing against injustice as well as spreading the values of justice, equality, diversity and tolerance.

The Human Rights Association, set up in February 2006 in line with a ministerial decision issued by Mariam Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, aims to tackle human rights issues on the basis of humanitarian and legal grounds.
