UAE committed to fight human trafficking
The UAE endorsed the UN Convention agreement on combating organised crime in 2000 and the UN Protocol to ban and punish people involved in human trafficking, especially of women and children in 2008
Doha: Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, has highlighted the UAE's efforts and achievements in the fight against human trafficking.
In a work paper submitted to the Doha Forum on Combating Human Trafficking, Gargash said, "The UAE is a committed and responsible member of the international community, which aims to occupy a leading position within the framework of efforts to combat human trafficking.
"The UAE is determined to fight this menace in the country and abroad in cooperation with international partners," the paper said.
"Our participation in this forum aims to exchange experiences with our partners as well as enhance dialogue and exchange of knowledge with regard to this issue, to benefit from available experiences."
The paper listed the treaties signed by the UAE in this regard and highlighted the country's efforts to protect victims.

The UAE is keen to make all procedures taken to combat human trafficking comply with the principles of non-discrimination, and taking into consideration the respect of human rights and the basic liberties of human trafficking victims.
"Like other countries, the UAE is suffering from the problem of human trafficking because of the large number of foreign workers who endure different kinds of abuse all over the world," the paper said.
