Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Centre for Information Affairs organised a symposium on "Zayed: Immortal Achievements" to commemorate the late Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The event was attended by key political, intellectual, and academic figures.
The symposium was opened by a speech delivered by the Information Advisor, Mohammad Khalifa Al Murar. He said that the memory of time records the history of mankind, and "as we stand today to review the march of civilisation of this blessed country, we pay tribute to the late Shaikh Zayed - a unique character which was an example to be followed in terms of ambitions, achievements and endeavours to realise the welfare and decent living to people and mankind everywhere".
"The exceptional leader died, the kind heart ceased to beat but it was full of mercy, kindness and tenderness. Nevertheless, Shaikh Zayed will never be forgotten or erased from our memory despite succession of time", Al Murar said.
Shaikh Zayed devoted his life for the benefit of his country and citizens and spared no effort to make this country the haven for faith, security, tolerance, love and solidarity.
He stated that since his passing, the late Shaikh Zayed was still cited in the prayers of mothers and was present in the memories of fathers, children, orphans and the needy people, who will always remember him.
Speaking also was Keiichiro Okabe, chairman of the Arab-Japan Association, and chairman of Cosmo Oil Company Ltd., who said Shaikh Zayed was a statesman who worked limitlessly throughout the 38 years of his reign to develop the country and place it among the world's most developed nations.
He recalled his meeting with late Shaikh Zayed on several occasions and the impressions that Shaikh Zayed left.
He was "a unique man characterised by great wisdom when tackling affairs, strong patience when facing calamities, a wide heart when establishing friendly relations with his people and people of other countries and a highly skilled diplomat, not to mention his kind hospitality, generosity and popularity among his people, the gulf and Arab people around the world," Okabe said.
