Sharjah: The emergency hotline at Sharjah Municipality received over 9,000 complaints since January, — 3,000 complaints less as compared with last year.
Complaints included cases related to food poisoning and rubbish in public areas, pest control management and broken water pipes.
"We transfer all the complaints received by the emergency hotline to the specialised authorities, either in different departments related to the municipality or to the local departments in the emirate," said Sultan Al Mualla, Director General of Sharjah Municipality.
Sharjah Municipality received 9,293 complaints on their hotline number 993, while from January to December 2008 they received 12,799.
Al Mualla pointed out that the municipality deals with all complaints and acts as soon as possible to remove the causes of the problem, in order to provide safety to UAE nationals and expatriates.
Residents are urged to call the hotline number 993 about any type of inquiries related to the municipality, or about any issue in the emirate.
"The municipality has issued a circular to all the municipality departments to take care of all hotline inquiries. First, the department responsible has to study the case and then they will solve it as soon as possible," Al Mualla said.

The registered inquiries also included issues related to worker and bachelor accommodation, water and sewage disrupting traffic on roads and food safety.
"We also had many complaints related to butcheries, rubbish in public parks, beauty salons, deserted houses, and violations of agriculture," said Al Mualla. The latter included illegally picking flowers and grass from roundabouts and parks.
