RAK government launches e-services portal
Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on Monday inaugurated an e-government conference titled Ras Al Khaimah -The Future organised by the RAK e- Government Authority (RAK- EGA).

The conference saw the official launch of RAK Government's new e-services portal, www.rak.ae, offering around 30 government-related services online.
RAK- EGA also announced the launch of mobile e-government services whereby people can access e-services through their mobile phones.
Dr Hashem Al Refaei, Director-General of RAK e- Government Authority said: "The offering of the first bunch of e-services marks a milestone in RAK- EGA's attempts to make available easy- to-use, integrated and quality-driven ICT (Information and Communications Technology services) to maximise productivity and attract investment to the emirate as envisioned by Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah."
Dr Refaei said people will be able to undertake a host of government-related transactions such as online payment of utility bills and traffic fines and tracking the status of applications at various government departments, through the portal which has separate sections for individuals, businesses and the government.
"The business community too can access a host of online services like the renewal of business licences, payment of trade licence fines, real estate property management services and requests for building permits, and many other services through the portal," he said, adding the RAK-EGA was in the process of making available 155 electronic services online within the next year.
Dr Refaei noted that RAK EGA has completed the first phase of its e- government initiatives by completing 100 per cent computerisation and automation of government departments, setting up an archive system for documents and implementing an electronic communication system within departments.
RAK EGA has also set up an attendance monitoring system for government employees and completed training for around 1,400 employees to embrace the new system. He said that RAK Government has spent around Dh22 million so for as part of its e-government initiatives.
Dr Mohammad Bu Alhamam, Head of the RAK Geographic Information System (GIS) Committee, said the development and implementation of an Enterprise GIS solution for the emirate was in the final phases and would be completed by December.
