New authority will protect key facilities
President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a law in his capacity as Ruler of Abu Dhabi, establishing an authority to protect vital facilities and utilities in the emirate.

The new authority will have an independent corporate body enjoying financial and administrative autonomy, and be an affiliate to the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
It will be based in Abu Dhabi, and enjoys the complete legal competence to carry out its activities.
The newly-established agency will be responsible for protecting all vital facilities from destructive acts to further boost the security of these facilities and achieve the economic stability in the emirate.
It will have to coordinate with the UAE Armed Forces and federal and local government bodies to protect Abu Dhabi's vital facilities.
It is tasked with following up, assessing and updating all procedures relating to insuring and protecting vital facilities, such as onshore and offshore petro-leum facilities, power generation stations, water desalination plants, natural gas transport network, airports, seaports, cables, aerials and all service networks owned by the emirate, from acts of sabotage to boost security and stability.
Drawing up strategy
The new body is tasked with coordination and cooperation with concerned authorities in drawing up and implementing policies and strategies necessary for insuring and protecting vital facilities.
The designed policies and strategies must be submitted to the Executive Council before taking action.
The authority is also assigned to set and implement administrative rules and regulations for the issuance of security permits to workers at the emirate's vital facilities.
It will also prepare the necessary procedures for inspecting transport means and carry out any other jurisdictions assigned by the executive council.
The authority will have a chairman and director-general to be appointed upon a decision by the Chairman of the Executive Council.
General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has issued a decision appointing Shaikh Ahmad Bin Tahnoun Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan as Chairman of the new authority.
