Nation continues to make progress, Shaikh Mohammad

The UAE is determined to reach the level of advanced countries and be ranked among the most civilised nations, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said on Monday.

Dubai: The UAE is determined to reach the level of advanced countries and be ranked among the most civilised nations, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said on Monday.

In a statement marking the National Day, the Vice President said the UAE has rich heritage and a story of success in turning dreams into ground realities.

He pledged to President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan that the UAE will remain a symbol of pride and glory and pride, an oasis of security and a well fortified fort to preserve the dignity of the nation and provides all the means of well being to its people.

''Our dreams of our beloved nation and people are great and evolving and our goals to propel our country to the leading rank among comity of most advanced nations and lead our people to the first slot among the most civilised and peoples will remain firm and unequivocal,' Shaikh Mohammad said in a statement to Dira Al Watan magazine.

"The Federation was a great dream that both the late leaders-Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum struggled to realise it and make it come true.

Shaikh Mohammed recalled that he and Shaikh Khalifa kept company with the founding leaders of the nation while they were building the UAE Federation and establishing its pillars and facing with steadfastness the political, economic and security effects of regional and international storms which blew on the region over the last four decades.

He referred to the Semaih meeting in February 1968 between Shaikh Zayed and Shaikh Rashid which led to the creation the UAE Federation on 2nd December 1971.

''Catching up with modernity was another dream made possible by our leadership through its far-sighted vision, tireless work, loyal effort and endless dedication.

''So, we have, over the past 37 years, worked what looks like miracles in terms of human, construction, thus transforming from divergent communities into one convergent community under a common national identity, from a state where illiteracy prevailed to a community boasts of education and educated and from a community lacked universities and university graduates to a community that is today proud of many campuses and tens of thousands of university graduates.

''And from primitive services and infrastructure to utilities and infrastructure that match if not better than their counterparts in advanced countries and from forgotten emirates in this part of the world to an active state, earning respect and credibility of the whole world.

''Over the past 37 years, we had not only succeeded in our race against time but bridged the wide gap which divided us from our modern time but also moved ahead to join the club of nations steaming forward with steady and confident steps on the path of progress, excellence, thus competing internationally in different sectors and scopes.

''As we steps into the 38th anniversary of the Federation, we are more determined to achieve more progress for our nation and people under the stewardship of Shaikh Khalifa and guided in the process by his national action programme which charted a roadmap for a bright and prosperous future, ''Shaikh Mohammed added.

''Our country has become a country of achievement and excellence and earned a reputed and strong regional and international footing. ''This, has enforced the foundations of a positive efficiency capable of addressing and tackling any challenges regardless of their types and level.

''Today, our country is interacting with diverse transformations and challenges with more efficiency in performance, more self-pride and more self-confidence about its policy.

''We are demanded to put on more effort on work and production so as to turn challenges into stimulants of energy, creativity and innovation although we are confident of the vibrancy of our economy and its diverse forces and potentials.

Addressing Emiratis, the Vice President said : ''Be optimistic about the future and be part in its making because you are standing on a solid ground and building on enormous achievements, the most conspicuous among them are you and what is available for you from education and knowledge and what you have gained from qualification, competence and expertise.
