Berlin: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will start a two-day landmark visit to Germany on Wednesday.

He will hold talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel and other senior officials, including ministers of foreign affairs and transport.

Shaikh Mohammad will also be honoured by the University of Berlin, Gulf News has learnt.

"The UAE and Germany has enjoyed a strategic relationship since the visit of former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to the UAE in 2003," UAE ambassador to Germany Mohammad Al Mahmoud said.

"We look with great interest to these ties because of the traditional stance of Germany and its non-colonial history."

Shaikh Mohammad's visit will witness the signing of a number of agreements, Al Mahmoud said.

Trade between the two countries is growing but its balance has been in favour of Germany. "We hope it would be streamlined following this visit," the envoy added.
