Mohammad receives visiting dignitaries

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday received more condolences on the death of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday received more condolences on the death of Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

He received Kuwaiti Prime Minister Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and his accompanying delegation, Bahraini Minister of Communications Shaikh Ali Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and his delegation, Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mousa, Omani Minister in Charge of Foreign Affairs Yousuf Bin Alawi Bin Abdullah, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Najji Al Otri, and the Private Representative of the President of the Philippines in the GCC countries.

Others who offered condolences yesterday included Afreedo Manteca, Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Henk Kamp, Dutch Defence Minister who conveyed the condolences of his deputy prime minister; Katsutoshi Kaneda, Japan's Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs; Farouq Qaddoumi, Political Bureau Head of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO); Abdul Baqqi Moulieh, Governor of Great Comoros Island; Baba Diouk, Speaker of the National Assembly of Senegal; dignitaries, senior civilian officials and military officers. Prince Bandar Bin Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud also offered condolences to Shaikh Mohammad, His Highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Sup-reme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah; General Shaikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry.

Present at the receptions were Shaikh Hamdan and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Shaikh Mohammad also received cables of condolences from Saudi Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, Emir of Riyadh; Prince Saud Al Faisal, Saudi Foreign Minister, and Prince Turki Al Faisal, Saudi ambassador to the United States.

Similar cables were sent by Elyas Al Murr, Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence; Michelle Fattoush and Henry Beurre, Members of Lebanon's Parliament; Imam Al Sadiq Al Mahdi, Chairman of Sudan's Ummah National Party; Mohammad Al Safadi, Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transport; Kostas Karamanlis, Greek Prime Minister, and Guy Verhofstadt, Belgian Prime Minister.

Shaikh Mohammad also received cables from Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, President of Indonesia; Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Kuwaiti Prime Minister; Dr Mohammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister; Shaikh Sa'ad Al Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah, Kuwaiti Crown Prince; President Tandja Mamadou of Niger; Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine; Ahmad Qorei, Palestinian Prime Minister; President Lech Kaczynski of Poland; President Jalal Talabani of Iraq; Takeushi Taniguchi, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Japan-UAE Parliamentary Friendship Society, and Frank Walker, Chief Minister of the British Island of Jersey.

Cables of thanks

Shaikh Mohammad received a telephone call from Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi during which he expressed sincere condolences on the death of Shaikh Maktoum.

Shaikh Mohammad sent cables of thanks to world leaders and top dignitaries, in reply to their cables of condolences.
