Mohammad lauds EU role in Mideast
General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received Javier Solana, High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary-General of the European Union (EU).
Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Monday received Javier Solana, High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary-General of the European Union (EU).
Shaikh Mohammad welcomed Solana and underlined the important role the EU plays in bringing about peace and stability in the region.
He reaffirmed the UAE's support for international efforts aiming to reach a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, and lead to the establishment of an independent state in Palestinian.
Shaikh Mohammad and Solana, who is on a visit to the UAE as part of a regional tour, reviewed efforts being made to revive the Middle East peace process and ways of supporting humanitarian operations for delivery of assistance in order to alleviate suffering of the Palestinian people.

They also exchanged views on developments in the global financial crisis and mechanisms of mitigating its consequences through greater international orchestrated co-ordination and co-operation.

Meanwhile, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, also met Solana and discussed with him the role of the EU in the Middle East and the latest regional and international developments as well as a number of topics of mutual interest.
