Dubai: The President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan received on Monday a cable of greetings from His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, congratulating him over the selection of Abu Dhabi as the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).
The following is the text of the cable:
President Your Highness brother Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan,
I am happy to offer you the sublime greetings and congratulations on the success of our country for hosting the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).
My greetings are also offered to brothers Their Highnesses the UAE Supreme Council Members and Rulers of emirates and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as to all dear children of our nation.
This great victory wouldn't have achieved without your vision for the position of our country and its positive role in the issues of our era and the concerns of our world. It would not have been achieved without your attention and efforts for preparing the constituents for equipping UAE to host the headquarters of the Agency, and without your follow up of the successful diplomatic campaign that was led by HH Foreign Minister with the participation of an elite group from among the children of our country, the ministers, ambassadors and diplomats.
Your Highness, you and the your people can be proud of the meanings and connotations carried by this achievement as it personifies the esteemed position of our country in the global forums and asserts the healthiness of our political and economic course, as well as our success in building a network of international relations based on peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, balanced interests and all requirements of international conventions. This achievement also establish the correctness of our choices with regard to our openness to our world and our era, our interaction with its issues based on our tenets and values in taking sides with truth, justice, development and virtues, as well as our faith in the unity of the destiny of the mankind that makes imperative on every country to do its duties and handle the common challenges that face the entire humanity, be it in the field of environment, epidemics, poverty, security, peace..and finally renewable energy.
Your Highness, in our endeavour for hosting the headquarters of IRENA we were not only looking after our right embodied by our serious search for renewable energy sources as expressed in the MASDAR city initiative in our shining capital, but we were also practicing the culture of the future, which has become a stable constituent in our thought, work, projects and initiatives. It is never absent from our mind that our future is interconnected with the future of the world, and the energy was, is and will be the main moving force in the building and of the world and its economy.
As we are strategic partners in the sources of conventional energy, we are also determined to be strategic partners in the sources of the renewable energy.
As we are proud of the confidence, with which we won among the member countries in the IRENA, and as we perceive that this confidence is the crowning of our triumphant march and heap of achievements on the domestic and the external levels, we pledge Your Highness to make this achievement a new occasion for sharpening our skills and launching the national energies and continuing the blessed march of renaissance with confidence, determination and design for the perpetuation of growth, educational development, scientific research, refinement of quality, competiveness and promoting of all services to the level of best global practices.
With success granted by God and your wise leadership my brother, our country will not be just the headquarters of the IRENA but will also be an active partner in the efforts for the search, development and finding of innovative solutions for renewable energy.
We have a deserving place among the developed countries. God said:
'Say: work (honestly), and Allah will accept your work, and so will the prophet and the believers'.
Strong case
Irena was created in January and will advise governments about renewable energy and technology.
Earlier, in Sharm Al Shaikh, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, made a strong case for the UAE to host the headquarters. She underscored that statistics clearly demonstrate that access to energy is a powerful indicator of human development, and that without such access, majority of the world's population will remain vulnerable to poverty and sickness.
