Lawmakers criticise government for not presenting draft federal budget on time
The Federal National Council (FNC) criticised the Government for repeatedly failing to abide by the pre-approved constitutional date of presenting the draft federal budget.
Abu Dhabi: The Federal National Council (FNC) criticised the Government for repeatedly failing to abide by the pre-approved constitutional date of presenting the draft federal budget.
“The Government not only was late by more than a month in sending the draft federal budget to the House, but also sent it right before a long holiday, which gives the FNC shorter time to discuss the budget,'' the FNC was told on Wednesday.
The legislature said the draft federal budget must be sent for approval at least two months before the year end.
“A delay in passing the budget leads to working on the basis of the previous year, which undermines the House,'' said Yousuf Ali Bin Fadil, a FNC member.
The House also said that only Abu Dhabi and Dubai contributed to the federal budget, “which violated the Constitution.''
The legislature demanded that the Marriage Fund be granted more money so that it can meet its obligations.
Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, said his ministry will take all the remarks into consideration.
