Knowledge is key to further growth
With the vision of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE is set to become a respected world leader in all fields.
The essence of the federal plan, outlined on April 17, is to provide the highest quality of life for all UAE nationals and to ensure sustainable development.
The UAE federal strategy can be summed by its pursuit to become a knowledge-based world class government. The government recognizes that while change is needed, it will not happen overnight.
Hence there are long-term plans with short steps to track the changes needed. The plan targets six main areas: social development aimed at all levels of education; healthcare development to improve the public and private sector by adopting the best practices; economic development will aim to increase GDP; the government sector will promote more public participation and build on the current system to become an example for the region and the world in governance; the justice and safety sector will develop the judicial system and the national security system; infrastructure developments will build state-of-the-art projects throughout the country; rural development aims to equip citizens in rural areas with the know-how and the technology to become world leaders in their field; and the environment will be the guideline for all these developments.
The federal strategy purports to make the government more accessible to the public through its e-Government programme. The initiative will see more information and services being available online.
With plans to explore renewable energy and alternative sources of energy, the government is determined to become a world leader in environmental studies.
With plans to increase cooperation and planning among the seven emirates, the federal strategy aims to increase the efficiency of government bodies and ministries, and to improve the decision-making process.
All of these initiatives will ultimately impact the quality of life for all the residents of the UAE and will improve the image and reputation of the UAE.
