German foreign minister holds talks with Mohammad

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday received Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany's foreign minister, at his Berlin residence.

Berlin: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday received Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Germany's foreign minister, at his Berlin residence.

Both leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways of boosting them in all areas of development in the light of the strong desire by the leadership of both countries to take the ties to greater heights.

Shaikh Mohammad said he was touched by the warm reception accorded to him during the visit, saying that it reflected the depth of the historic friendship between the UAE and Germany.

The UAE Vice-President hoped his visit would bear fruit for the two countries and their people, particularly in the areas of economy, science and culture.

Steinmeier, who formally welcomed Shaikh Mohammad to Germany, thanked him for seizing the opportunity to hold talks with senior German officials, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Diverse discussions

Shaikh Mohammad talked to Merkel about a number of issues, including problems in the Middle East and other conflict-ridden areas.

Steinmeier told the Ruler of Dubai that he has been in close contact with the UAE Foreign Minister, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and has exchange views on the Middle East in an attempt to find ways to achieve regional and global peace and stability.

The German foreign minister said Shaikh Mohammad's visit would further boost the partnership between the two countries following Shaikh Mohammad's meeting with German businessmen and other business personalities.

Present at the meeting were Dubai's Deputy Ruler, Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Shaikh Abdullah, UAE ambassador to Germany, Mohammad Ahmad Al Mahmoud and a number of other shaikhs, ministers and senior officials.
