Dubai: There is a festive mood in the air as the country gets ready to mark the 36th National Day on December 2. Landmark buildings around the UAE have been illuminated with glittering fairy lights and draped with huge flags.
Various events are planned around the country, from a flotilla of dhows on the Abu Dhabi corniche, to fireworks at the Dubai Creek and a military band playing at Qanat Al Qasba in Sharjah. Community events are also planned along the Dubai Creek Park on December 2 and 3.
Most residents will enjoy a long weekend starting Friday to Monday and the weather bureau promises lovely weather. Residents will not have to pay for parking during the holidays and a phone operator is offering discounts during the holidays.
In Dubai, motorists were seen yesterday already flying the flag. In Abu Dhabi a huge flag will be flown around the emirate on a helicopter. Meanwhile, Zayed University celebrated the day at their Dubai campus yesterday.
