Fake herbal medicine for diabetes cure seized
Inspectors from the Department of Economic Development have seized huge quantities of herbal medicine sold by shops claiming to treat diabetes.
Ras Al Khaimah: Inspectors from the Department of Economic Development have seized huge quantities of herbal medicine sold by shops claiming to treat diabetes.
The department has registered several complaints against the shops claiming that the medicines sold was of no use to cure the disease. The herbal shops used to sell the medication claimed to be a mixture of herbal and natural ingredients, to several people.
The authorities had sent samples of the medication for analysis and the Medical District reported that it never issued any approval for this particular herbal medication to circulate in the emirate.
As per the rules and regulations, the herbal shops should obtain licenses from the Medical District to operate in the first place and submit samples of the products they sell to the authorities for analysis and approval before they are sold to the public.
Under surveillance
Sources said owners of the shops had to sign pledges never to repeat the violation and never to display products that are not approved by the medical authorities.
A senior official at the Medical District said the herbal shops also provide medical services. The authorities have been instructed to keep these shops under strict surveillance to ensure that these do not proliferate.
The sources stressed that the seized medicines will be destroyed and the inspectors have been instructed to seize all other fake medications circulating in the emirate.
