Experts sound off on 2010: UAE

"For the year 2010, residents of Sharjah can look forward to the new bus shelters that will be set up around the city soon. One of the main ways to reduce traffic congestion is by encouraging residents to use the public transport system, so we are working with the cooperation of Sharjah Transport Authority in providing the best kind of service. The bus shelters will also be equipped with the map route for all of our nine buses." -

The number of death cases, injuries and road accidents... in the emirate is expected to go down during the year 2010 with the installation of tens of radars and increasing the number of police patrols in every shift. During the first quarter of 2010, a total of 80 radars will be installed... [and] speeding will be controlled. The department's 2010 plan stipulates that the number of police patrols which is currently 12 per shift will be increased to 20." -

"EIDA will introduce contact-less technology cards in the third quarter of 2010 so that ID card holders will not need to swipe or insert the cards in card readers to use services like e-gate. You have to just show the cards to card readers to use any services with ID cards. EIDA has ordered two million contact-less technology cards and 200,000 of them will arrive by third quarter of 2010. It will save a lot of time, especially at e-gates at airports." -
