Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested a leader of a major drug trafficking gang after a raid in Al Ain in coordination with the Federal Anti-Narcotics Directorate.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said that Dubai Police’s Anti Narcotics Department, in coordination with the Federal Anti-Narcotics Directorate at the Ministry of Interior, successfully completed the mission called ‘Al Khaimah Operation’. He said that the arrest of the gang leader has exposed a major drug trafficking network in the country, He added that the arrest took place after the authorities raided the suspsect’s house in Al Ain early in May this year.

Large quantities of hashish were seized in his possession.

Colonel Eid Mohammad Thani Hareb, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Deparmment at Dubai Police, said that the ‘Al Khaimah Operation’ “has inflicted a great blow to drug traders and smugglers”.

He added that the Emirati suspect, M.S.A., is in his thirties. The police investigation showed that he was active in importing narcotics and drugs to the country and had dubious relations with people abroad to whom he used to transfer funds from time to time to send drugs to the country.

Colonel Hareb added that after the raid and a thorough search of the suspect’s house, the suspect himself led the team to a tent in the vicinity of the house where more than 52 kilograms of hashish were stashed inside plastic bags ready to be sold. Quantities of hashish were also found in the suspect’s vehicle, along with 7 cellphones, money transfer documents, and several ATM cards from different banks in the country.

The suspect was referred to the authorities where he was accused of possessing narcotics for trade, smuggling and use.
