Abu Dhabi: The UAE's Federal National Council issued a communique affirming that the state of affairs in Abu Mousa island is ruled by the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 1971.

The FNC called for the Islamic Republic of Iran to remove all illegally installed constructions on the island, as these installations will never change the sovereignty of the UAE in the island.

The FNC stated in its communique that the UAE is following with great concern Iran's setting up of two offices, a marine rescue centre and a registration office for ships and sailors, on Abu Mousa island which is ruled by the articles and provisions of the 1971 MOU.

The communique also stated that the sovereignty of the UAE island has not been transferred to the Iranians, which means that all the Iranian installations are illegal. Abdul Rahman Al Attiyah, the GCC's secretary-general also condemned the Iranian illegal actions on Abu Mousa island.
