Cabinet completes year with teamwork as its core
It has been one year since the new Cabinet members were sworn in before President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Abu Dhabi: It has been one year since the new Cabinet members were sworn in before President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Cabinet was formed by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on February 12, 2006.
As he was sworn in before the President, Shaikh Mohammad proclaimed teamwork as the foundation for leading the work team and the development march towards glory of the nation, building and providing dignified life to UAE citizens.
"We will all be working as one team under the leadership of Shaikh Khalifa so as to raise our nation's status, serve our people and society as well as to create job opportunities for young nationals, Shaikh Mohammad said.
He promised to adopt realistic and applicable programmes and well-considered plans to achieve economic, social and human development.
Abolishing red tape
At the first meeting of the newly-formed Cabinet on February 20, 2006, Shaikh Mohammad reviewed the major components of national action plans in the next stage and announced plans for abolition of red tape and centralisation and giving federal ministries full administrative and financial independence as well as wider powers to improve their services and performance.
Shaikh Mohammad stressed commitment to national goals and policies laid down by the founding fathers. He also called for a comprehensive strategic plan for the cabinet to be implemented in the best service of the nation and citizens.
Shaikh Mohammad considered the historic speech by the President on the UAE's 34th National Day anniversary as a solid foundation and guidelines for the Cabinet, which endorsed it as a comprehensive national plan to be adopted in the second stage.
Shaikh Mohammad ordered the establishment of a specialised court for dealing with labour complaints and mistreatment cases. He also ordered the establishment of a special inspection unit to monitor labour accommodation and workplaces.
He also ordered a stricter enforcement of laws that protect the rights of labourers and domestic workers and improve their quality of life.
