Achievement award winners honoured

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday attended a ceremony held by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development to mark National Day.

Abu Dhabi : President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Sunday attended a ceremony held by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development to mark National Day.

The ceremony was also attended by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates.

The leaders attended an operetta written, composed, directed and performed by UAE artists titled We Are the Soul of the Federation.

Cultural evening

The operetta reviewed the achievements of the federation under the leadership of Shaikh Khalifa and rulers of the emirates, and a documentary was shown about the UAE's progress since the days of diving for pearls until today, especially in the civil, industrial and agricultural fields.

After the show, Shaikh Khalifa, Shaikh Mohammad and the Rulers honoured winners of the second edition of the Emirates Appreciation Award for Science, Arts and Literature.

Winners of the Emirates Appreciation Award for Science, Arts and Literature include Dr Yousuf Mohammad Abdul Razzaq Bastaki (in Science-Medicine), Habib Yousuf Al Sayegh (in literature- Arabic poetry), Dr Najat Hassan Makki (in arts-drawing and painting), Samira Ahmad (in performance arts-acting), and Dr Fawziya Abdullah Al Ali (in research-media studies).

Shaikh Khalifa, Shaikh Mohammad and the Rulers then toured the photo and medal exhibition at Emirates Palace. The President also hosted a banquet.
