Dubai: Some 22 per cent of all the companies inspected by the UAE Ministry of Labour have violated the midday break rule in the three first days after the rule came into effect.
Around 25 of the 112 companies inspected in Dubai and the Northern Emirates have broken the rule, according to a Ministry of Labour report. Of this, more than half of the violations were in Dubai.
Dubai had 13 violations, followed by Ajman - 6, Sharjah - 3 and Fujairah - 3.
However, Eisa Al Zarooni, deputy head of the investigation unit, said that overall, companies have shown a great commitment and have adhered to the rule.
Meanwhile, the Ministry is planning to set the standards for health and safety regulations.
Humaid Bin Deemas, assistant undersecretary at the ministry, said that the ministry would set the standards for health and safety regulations by 2008.
“Standardising health and safety requirements is one of our main objectives for 2008. These standards have to be followed by all companies in the country; even those in the free zones areas,'' said Deemas.
