Worshippers unaffected as same schedule continues
Church officials have indicated that there will be only minor scheduling changes in their operations resulting from the introduction of the new weekend.
Dubai: Church officials have indicated that there will be only minor scheduling changes in their operations resulting from the introduction of the new weekend.
According to Father Barnaba Missi of the Greek Orthodox Church in Dubai, a majority of the church's functions would remain unaffected.
"We will continue to hold our services on Friday, Saturday and Sunday," he told Gulf News. "We will change what we call 'Sunday' school [religious education] from Thursday morning to Saturday morning, as children will now be at school on Thursday."
Minimal changes
Father Francois Kaussaifi of the catholic church of St Mary's in Dubai, St Michael, St Francis, St Anthony in Ras Al Khaimah and St Mary's in Fujairah also indicated that there would be minimal changes to their operations.
"We will continue to operate on the same schedule, although we will now hold our Arabic catechism classes, which are classes for the preparation of the holy sacraments, later in the Thursday evening. Also, the catechism classes that we teach for the French community are now going to be held on Monday instead of Saturday."
Father Francis described the changeover as a "bit of an experiment for us all".
Reverend John Weir of the Anglican Church said: "We are already so busy on most days that it will be difficult to accommodate too many changes. We are just going to wait and see what happens."
